Library Programming
The Principal's Book Club
The goal of the Principal's Book Club is to create a culture of reading on campus and build strong classroom libraries. Mrs. Carrasco and Mrs. Alaniz deliver a new book each month to every classroom. After listening to their teacher read the book, students are encouraged to respond to the book and display their work on the campus book club bulletin board.
Holiday Reading Challenges
During each school break, students are encouraged to take on a fun reading challenge! Whether it's Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break, or Summer, students set a reading goal and work to achieve it. Those who complete their goals earn exciting rewards and recognition for their hard work.
NISD Battle of the Bluebonnets
Students in 4th and 5th grades can participate in Mrs. Alaniz's Bluebonnet Book Club. Students are put on a team of 4, and they each read 5 books from the current Texas Bluebonnet reading list. They will compete at the campus and then advance to the district level. The number one team will advance to the city-wide competition in late spring.
Texas 2x2 Classroom Reading Challenge
Pre-k through 2nd grade classrooms are encouraged to read all 20 Texas 2x2 books. When all 20 books have been marked on their class reading log, the classroom teacher can claim a prize from Mrs. Alaniz.
Garden Club
Students in 2nd through 5th grades can participate in the Cody Garden Club. Garden club members plant and maintain native flower and vegetable garden beds. Students present their work at the Spring Project Acorn Showcase.
